Company History and Development

The Asmall Group started in 1910 and has grown from one small clothing retail store employing less than 10 people to Retail Group consisting of 16 retail outlets and a Warehouse operation, employing more than 300 people whom we refer to as Associates.

  • The Groups branches and warehouse are as follows: Phoenix, Pinetown, KwaDukuza Mall Stanger, Hulett Street Stanger, Tongaat, Verulam, Chatsworth, West Street(Dbn), Greytown, Ladysmith, Newcastle, Victoria Road Clothing & Curtaining, PMB Main Branch, PMB Man’s Shop, the Warehouse/Distribution centre at Barnsley Road and the Hyper Store at Barnsley Road in Pietermaritzburg.

The Asmall Group

It is a family business and the late Mr. Y.D. Asmall and his two sons, Yunus and Mohammed, lead the company together with a team of Senior Managers. The business is now currently run by Yunus and Mohammed Asmall, with a team of Senior Managers. The image of Asmalls is that of providing good quality merchandise at discount prices. This together with a very strong drive towards excellent customer service has enabled the company to grow from strength to strength. We see having the right merchandise at the right price as one of our core values, but only as a starting point. We see one of our strongest points as our high standard of customer service.

  • We like to know that our customers are guaranteed high quality garments with matching high quality service at low prices they could not get elsewhere. Being an Associate in our company, it is your responsibility to ensure that this image is maintained at whichever store you are. We see ourselves as a growing company, ready to out do our competitors at every turn. In order to do that you must at all times be aware of what the main competitors in your area are offering (especially in terms of price and variety), and to inform Head Office as quickly as possible so that Head Office can react with speed when needed.
